The thriller series “The Swarm” tells of the fight of mankind against an unknown swarm intelligence in the sea. All over the world, an undetermined danger emanates from the sea. A team of international scientists sets out to find answers.

What is fact, what is fiction? What could really be happening? Through what lens do marine scientists view the series?

At the Science Watch Parties, you will have the opportunity to watch the bestselling novel adaptation by Frank Schätzing together with scientists from HIFMB and ICBM (Institute for Chemistry and Biology of the Sea). Already during the series you can ask questions in the chat, which will be answered either immediately or in more detail in the following discussion round.
The event will be held in German. We will watch two episodes of the series on each of the four evenings, pausing the stream after each episode for a 15-minute discussion.
The Science Watch Party is a joint project of the Research and Transfer Department of the University of Oldenburg, ICBM and the HIFMB.

You want to be part of it? This is how it works:

  • Register now and get the link to the Science Watch Party.
  • Make yourself comfortable in front of the TV or laptop on the above mentioned dates and open the ZDF Mediathek.
  • Open the link to the Science Watch Party with your cell phone or other device:
    • There we will introduce you to the scientists who will answer your questions on the respective evenings.
    • Then we’ll start the series together.
  • Type your questions into the chat. You’ll get short answers directly in the chat, more comprehensive ones later in the discussion round.
