In October 2024 the first Germany wide biodiversity assessment “Faktencheck Artenvielfalt” was published. The HIFMB led the writing process of the chapter on status and changes of coastal and marine biodiversity, their drivers and consequences, as well as options and needs for action to improve its status. The assessment compiled information and data from numerous publications, reports, monitoring data sets and expert opinion in order serve as a basis for decision making for policy makers and practitioners.

For that reason, the HIFMB held a workshop bringing together some of the lead authors of the report, representatives from politics, conservation authorities, consulting agencies, and science to present and discuss the most relevant results and lessons-learned from the interdisciplinary writing process.

After an engaged discussion the group split up into subgroups to develop ideas for spin-off projects and identify topics for further inter- and transdisciplinary collaborations and exchange. One important aspect was how these need to be conceptualized in order to take into account the different perspectives of all involved stakeholders and to produce society relevant outcomes.

The workshop ended with a summary and discussion of the group work results. We thank all participants for a very informative, productive discussion and appreciative atmosphere during the workshop and look forward to further collaborations.
