Scientific Members

The HIFMB’s members include the mfounding members of the University of Oldenburg and the Alfred Wegener Institute, as well as other internationally renowned scientists from the field of marine biodiversity research. This also includes the professors appointed to lead our institute’s own working groups and the head of the focus group, the institute’s junior research group.

They define the strategic orientation of the HIFMB through research projects and participation in committees. In addition, they make proposals regarding the HIFMB’s research strategy and forward them to the Board of Directors, which is responsible for scientific strategy development. In addition, scientific HIFMB members have a right of proposal for the members of the steering committee and the scientific advisory board.

Directorate

The directorate is responsible for the scientific strategy development, its implementation and the resulting research program. In doing so, it takes into account the decisions of the cooperation council and the recommendations of the steering committee and the scientific advisory board.

The board of directors consists of the director of the HIFMB core, the spokesperson of HIFMB-AWI and the spokesperson of HIFMB-UOL. The board of directors represents the HIFMB in all common scientific matters and is responsible for reporting on the development and scientific achievements of the HIFMB to the cooperation board.

Advisory Members of the Directorate

Cooperation Board

The cooperation board assists and supervises the activities of the directorate and forms the central coordinating body.

It consists of the AWI board of directors and the presidential board of the University of Oldenburg. Guests of the Cooperation Council are the designated representatives of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the Ministry of Science and Culture of the State of Lower Saxony and the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers

Advisory Board

The advisory board advises the HIFMB and the management of the University of Oldenburg and the AWI on the scientific orientation and strategic issues of the HIFMB in order to ensure the continuous scientific development and the achievement of HIFMB’s research goals. It can recommend measures to improve research and science at the HIFMB.

The constitution of the Advisory Board is imminent.
