The HIFMB is home to an international community of researchers and staff from diverse origins of geography, culture, and gender. In addition to our mission of excellence in research and education, the HIFMB strives to be a healthy work environment for all.

As a community we are mindful that concerns which may be crucial for one person’s wellbeing may seem unimportant for another. Thus, an inclusive and healthy environment requires an additional effort from each of its members. We also recognize that this takes time and continuous learning.

We are approaching this goal from different directions.

At the institute, we are particularly concerned about the mental health of young researchers. That’s why we offer workshops that cover topics ranging from daily motivation and dealing with frustration and anxieties to promoting a healthy error culture. Our aim is to provide team members with tools that contribute to a successful and resilient academic community.

Furthermore, we have created a “Social and Cultural Contract” for ourselves at the HIFMB. We recognize it as an incomplete and evolving document.

Our Persons of Trust team serves as a low-level and informal contact point for current and acute concerns for all HIFMB employees. They can advice and support in finding a sustainable and satisfactory solution for the given issue or conflict as well as provide information about existing contact points or support centers.
