Research Interests

I’m interested in a mechanistic understanding between seasonal environmental factors (e.g. food, sea ice, photoperiod) and the phenology of key invertebrates, which play a central role in marine food webs, from an organismic, cellular and genetic perspective. Specific interest is focusing on the role of endogenous clocks as driver of important seasonal life cycle functions and their synchronization by environmental cues. In addition, I’m interested in the impact of these species in biogeochemical cycles (e.g. biological C-pump, remineralization of iron) and to icorporate the results into sustainable management approaches.
