Research Interests

A warm ”Moin” from my side,

My name is Laura, I am from Bremen and one of the master students in this working group. I am studying marine environmental sciences in Oldenburg. It was here where I first got in touch with the topic of marine governance and the broader field of marine social sciences. Thanks to Kim and her lectures I figured out that I would like to write my master’s thesis in this field. So now I am here and glad having the chance to write my thesis about the Port Access Route Study in the Bering Strait (located between Russia and Alaska), its development, the associated legal framework, involved key stakeholders and its current status. I’m fortune to have Kim and Rebecca as my supervisors.

More information about my background: Following the completion of a 3-year apprenticeship as an event manager, I started my studies in environmental sciences at Oldenburg, successfully graduating in 2019. My bachelor thesis focused on the study of Antarctic salps (gelatinous zooplankton), where I conducted an analysis of their seasonal biochemical body composition at the Alfred-Wegener Institute, in Bremerhaven.

And for the future? So far, I am keen on diving deeper into the realms of science communications and science journalism. Writing and engaging with people have always been passions of mine, particularly when it comes to addressing topics related to the preservation of the marine environment. Moreover, I see the importance of transferring science-based knowledge in a more fascinating and modern manner to a broader audience – that is where I would love to step in.
