Research Interests

My research interests lie on understanding the ecological and evolutionary dynamics of microbiome within their communities and in their habitats, focusing on two fundamental questions: How does a microbial community achieve stability in the face of environmental or biological change?  How do changes in microbial community composition translate into functional changes? In my work I have pursued answers to these questions in studies of aquatic ecosystems. I combine theory, experiments, or synthesis with molecular / bioinformatic tools and quantitative ecology to study how microbiome responds to stressors, and what microbial traits promote their resilience to changing environments. I aspire that my work will advance fundamental and predictive microbiome science broadly.
