Research Interests
I am a microbial ecologist with a keen interest in species interactions, evolution/adaptation and carbon cycling. I use advanced analytical techniques, such as next-generation sequencing and ultra-high resolution mass spectrometry, to study interactions between bacteria and dissolved organic matter.
I thoroughly enjoy learning about research in other fields and evaluating how my work fits within broader disciplinary contexts. I am currently part of the new interdisciplinary Booter Unit project ‘Governing the Invisible’, associated with the Ocean Floor Excellence Cluster, where I am working with maritime historians and marine social scientists to uncover hidden connections among our disciplines. Our goal is to develop a theoretical framework for how researchers from diverse backgrounds can come together to tackle complex issues, such as climate change, and develop approaches for more informed ocean governance.
